Current Bible Study
Micah 7:8 - Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
John 1:17 - For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:20 - Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
There isn't a whole lot anyone can add to a collection of verses like that! One of the greatest things about the Lord is His insurmountable grace and mercy on us. We make mistakes often - and we fall flat on our face. Oftentimes we think only about how we are making a fool out of ourselves, but in the end it is God that we are representing.
I know I have made a lot of mistakes in my life, and I often think God must be looking down with disappointment at my failures. If I were Him I would be embarrassed! It's easy for me to forget that I serve a kind and loving God that understands my shortcomings and my temptations. The great thing about serving a God like that is that He doesn't look down on me with an impatient attitude when I make a mistake - the Bible says He is longsuffering and not willing that any should perish.
When we make mistakes God is disappointed, and I believe it hurts Him more than we can know. But at the same time He is always waiting for us to run back to Him. When we repent and call on His mercy, He is always willing to give to us. Obviously this doesn't mean we should sin knowingly and count on His forgiveness, but it does mean that when we make an honest mistake we can count on Him to be faithful - even when we haven't been.
Micah 7:8 is one of my favorite verses, because it perfectly describes the determination I have to live for God no matter what. I know the grace of God is sufficient for me, even in my weakness, and every time I make a mistake I am going to get up and keep going. God has promised me grace, and that is the only way I am going to be save!
Thank God for His faithfulness, and His Grace!
